Republicanism
The values and ideals of republicanism are foundational in the constitution and history of the United States Under the leadership of Lincoln and a Republican Congress, the Republican Party led the fight to defeat the Confederate States in the American Civil War, preserving the Union and abolishing slavery. The 1980 election of Ronald Reagan realigned national politics, bringing together advocates of free-market economics, social conservatives, and Cold War foreign policy hawks under the Republican banner as a period of great hope and optimism.
Reagan Bush Ideals
Ronald Reagan changed the trajectory of America and path of optimism for a time because the country was ready for it. The excesses of the 1960s and 1970s and government had grown and grown but there wasn't accountability. Reagan and Bush tapped into what people were already feeling, which was we want clarity, we want optimism, we want a return to that sense of dynamism and entrepreneurship that had been missing - America is there again and must find inspirational leadership that brings people together in unity.
